Fire Suppression

Fire Suppression is the fastest growing product group in the Sperosens solution and product basket. In its short history Sperosens became a leading supplier of fire suppression solutions due to the sheer size of the potential market and our current dominance in a niche sector thereof.

The current mature product in this group is the Conveyor Belt Fire Suppression System. Huge potential exists in our other solution offerings and other applications such as electric switchgear, power transformers, diesel power plants and vehicles.

The belt fire suppression system consists of a constant pressure agent cylinder vessel filled with an AFFF foam film/water mixture which is pressurised by nitrogen. This type of vessel is known as a Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS) in the fire industry and is used widely especially in the mining sector. The rest of the Belt fire suppression system comprises a flame sensor, an IR temperature scanner, various bearing temperature sensors and a custom designed electronic control panel. At final installation a foam film nozzle and pipe network are added. Sperosens owns the specific system IP by virtue of a paid commission for a fire equipment designer done in 2005.

The Conveyor Belt fire suppression systems are presently in a number of mines in North West and Limpopo provinces.

The competitive advantage that Sperosens enjoys with Conveyor Belt fire suppression is based on numerous value factors:
• The usage of a small stand alone CAFS independent of mine water supply reduces costs significantly over competitive pipe systems.
• The focus to protect the 10% of a conveyor system where 95% of the fire risk is located, impacts positively on the price of our solution vs. competitive pipe systems.
• The ability to utilize sensors and electronics (fire detection) of high integrity in a fire prevention as well as a fire detection mode. The rest of the fire industry is exclusively equipped to deal in the conventional available plumbing and related conventional type detection systems only.
• The option of linking with a telemetry system that provides status and alarm information about Conveyor Belt fire suppression installations in the mine control room.
• The Sperosens track record of excellent service is well known in industry and more and more customers are entering into Service Level Agreements with Sperosens.
